8 Maintenance Tips for Your Rotary Spreader

With a building full of mowers, aerators, sprayers, topdressors and utilility vehicles all requiring routine winter maintenance, it is all too easy for mechanics to overlook the rotary spreaders in the corner - even in your personal garage.  Don't forget the rotrary spreader!  Regular maintenance, proper setting and calibration is essential for accurate application and to keep your rotary spreader operating at its optimum.

Andersons Rotary Spreader Maintenance Tips from Keso Turf SuppliesKESO Turf Supplies recommends 8 Steps to Maintain Your Rotary Spreader:

  1. Empty the spreader after use and wash thoroughly.  Clean all residue fro the rotor plate.
  2. Periodically grease the axle bearing housings. Oil the pivot points on the main shutoff /rate control linkage and the spring inside the rate control housing.
  3. Maintain tire pressure at 20 lbs PSI.
  4. If the gear box becomes noisy, remove the covers and clean the gears thoroughly. Lightly grease the gear teeth.

  6. Make sure the shutoff control rod does not bind.
  7. When using a Model 2000 SR,check for the correct operation of the deflector assembly and proper position of the port shutoff cable.
  8. Use a “Collection Box” to insure the most accurate calibration.
